“His body contortions are unbelievable and the breakneck speed of the skills he performs is incredible. I was reminded of an airborne pommel horse routine.”

Joe of Theatre Reviews from my Seat

With a background in competitive gymnastics and a deep love for theatre and dance, Troy knew they’d found their calling while taking their first aerial silks class (thank you, Groupon). Over ten years later, Troy is one of the most recognizable circus artists in NYC: performing in the city’s top cabaret and variety shows, and coaching adults of all ages at various studios. Troy has worked with Austin McCormick’s Company XIV (Nutcracker Rouge, Seven Sins) and Angela Butch’s ABCirque, (Petroushka in Stravinski’s Petroushka), and regularly performs at The Box, The House of Yes, The Stranger, The Red Pavillion, and The Slipper Room. After developing a solid technique foundation at Aerial Revolution in San Diego, Troy is proudly a self-taught artist. They have sought instruction from coaches around the world including from Aaron Koz (straps), Angela Kim (contortion), Kerri Kresinski (aerial silk), Bobby Hedglin-Taylor (aerial silk), Seraphim Richter (straps), and Nicolas Stocco (trapeze dynamics). Teaching and performance has taken Troy to London (The Box, SoHo), Lucerne (Circus Armonia with Obrasso Concerts), Múrcia, Berlin, Puerto Escondido, and across the United States.

Troy specializes in dance trapeze, aerial silks, aerial straps, and lyra. They also train and have performed rope, Spanish web, hand balancing, and partner acrobatics.

PHILOSOPHY

In theatre, we sing when words cannot speak our thoughts. We dance when song alone can no longer contain our emotions. So in circus, we must take flight to share our truth.

As a choreographer, Troy is drawn to work that transcends spectacle. When the tricks and skills that circus artists put hours into developing and training are executed not for applause, but to further a story. The work of circus pushes the boundary of what the human body can do—Troy seeks to match this with stories that questions our humanity and existence, pushing the boundaries of our minds. Taking ownership of the sound, costuming, choreography, and design, Troy’s work aims to take audiences through “gesamtkunstwek.”

FLY WITH ME

Troy has been coaching aerial arts and flexibility for over seven years. Pulling from their training with coaches from around the world, their teaching method leaves students with an understanding of what they are asked to do rather than the ability to mimic a sequence, as well as a deeper relationship with students’ musculature and skeleton. For this reason, Troy avoids teaching in terms of “left and right” in favor or speaking in opposition and the body’s relationship to the apparatus. With an emphasis on technique and theory, Troy will help build the foundation for your body and mind to safely create original pathways.
